• the sudden illness of self, immediate family members or carpool partner
  • home emergency
  • eldercare or daycare emergency
  • theft of a bicycle, bicycle damage or severe weather (applies to cyclists and walkers only)
  • unscheduled, supervisor-required overtime

A Valid destination for using an Emergency Ride Home service includes an employee's home, childcare or elder care facility, local transit station, and park and ride lot.

Invalid reasons for using the midday ERH program:

  • personal errands
  • pre-planned medical appointments
  • medical emergency where an ambulance is needed
  • business-related travel
  • flat tire on the automobile (that isn't a carpool)
  • dead battery in the vehicle (that isn't a carpool)
  • unauthorized overtime
  • missed transit due to poor planning
  • late transit or transit breakdown
  • natural disasters or civic emergencies such as an earthquake, terrorist attack or demonstration
  • transportation to a doctor or hospital resulting from an on-the-job injury or medical issue
  • non-emergency related side-trips on the way to the ERH destination


You will receive an email with instructions for using the Emergency Ride Home Program upon completing registration. ERH use activities will be monitored and audited. If the CityLine Sunnyvale ERH program is misused or invalid, the employee will be held responsible for cost reimbursements. Each qualified employee is limited to five ERH rides per year.
